Susan Rice in Inverness

Prof. Robert Cormack, Susan Rice and Paul Houlden

Susan Rice gave an entertaining talk in Inverness on 28 November 2007 at UHI Millennium Inst.

Susan Rice discussed her transatlantic career, highlighting some of her most memorable and challenging experiences, from an anti-apartheid protest to property development in the Bronx.  Along the way, Susan developed strong notions of what makes an effective leader and what constitutes success.  She channelled this into her stewardship of Lloyds TSB Scotland – a role which saw her win the LogicaCMG Leadership Award at this year’s National Business Awards for Scotland.

In an interactive discussion with Professor Bob Cormack of the UHI, Susan reflected on how her experiences in the USA and UK have shaped her outlook as well as focusing on some pressing issues in the Highlands and Islands.  Susan also added a personal touch by describing life in her island retreat on Harris.

This was a hugely informative and entertaining session, where the audience also had the chance to put questions to Susan direct.
