The Winners

The Winners 2012

Colin Robertson has been named as the IoD Scotland Director of the Year at a prestigious awards ceremony held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow on Thursday 22nd March 2012.

Award Presentation to The WinnerThe judges selected Colin Robertson, CEO of Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL), because he has become an inspirational figure within his company, building turnover and profit, developing talent and working to clear low-carbon strategies.

As CEO of ADL, Colin has been the guiding light in a period of dramatic change that has taken the company not only to market leadership in the UK but seen it emerge as a powerful force in the international bus market, competing head-to-head against such global giants as Volvo, Scania, MAN and Mercedes.  Colin has addressed fundamental product, process and people issues across ADL and his work has delivered outstanding results.

The event was hosted by TV and radio broadcaster Kaye Adams and John Swinney MSP was the guest speaker.

The evening’s other big winners were Raymond O’Hare and Sir John Elvidge KCB who were both awarded the prestigious Chairman’s award. Norman Murray won both Global Director of the Year and Non-Executive Director of the Year.  Norman is Chair and non-executive director of a number of organisations, including Petrofac, Greene King and, until recently, Robert Wiseman Dairies.

IoD Scotland Executive Director David Watt said:  “The Director of the Year Awards has again recognised the outstanding contribution made by many of our business leaders.

“We can take heart that we have a raft of exceptional director talent in Scotland. I think that the quality and wealth of experience demonstrated by our talented award winners should give some encouragement to the next generation of aspiring entrepreneurs. Scotland desperately needs more people like this - individuals who are going to make us more globally competitive.”

Each of this year’s winners received a unique, specially commissioned trophy, designed and produced by Sarah Peterson of Caithness Glass, a framed certificate and a silk tartan scarf produced and provided by Kinloch Anderson.
